I trained hard but I still missed my BQ time, what am I doing wrong? I have tried running slow to get faster but I am not faster. I've run a few half marathons, am I ready to run a marathon?
Coach Ralph either found distance running by accident or distance running found him. Coach Ralph was in his heart a 400 / 800 runner. Until, on one day, Coach Ralph decided he would run a marathon. He missed qualifying for Boston by a little over 3 minutes in his first marathon. The fire was lit. Determined to qualify, he reviewed his
Coach Ralph either found distance running by accident or distance running found him. Coach Ralph was in his heart a 400 / 800 runner. Until, on one day, Coach Ralph decided he would run a marathon. He missed qualifying for Boston by a little over 3 minutes in his first marathon. The fire was lit. Determined to qualify, he reviewed his race performance and training plan to assess what to modify to improve his chances for BQ success the next time. He realized that even though the course appeared to be relatively flat, there were plenty of stretches with rolling hills. He added a hill circuit to his training program. To stay strong towards the end of the race, he incorporated progression runs. A year later at Marine Corp Marathon, he qualified for Boston and improved his time by 13 minutes to finish in 3:01. Coach Ralph will bring this same analysis to your training and races to help you improve.
